During the research, scientists from all over the world have detected an increase in blindness among people. This increase is particularly intensive in the last two years. According to experts’ forecasts, by 2020 this figure will grow by another 2.5 million, and in the next 30 years, there will be 115 million blind. That is, by 2050 the number of people with a full or partial impairment of vision will triple.
At present, the greatest number of blind people is recorded in South Asia and southern Africa. Over the past 25 years, scientists have also conducted studies, during which it was found out – impairment of vision of varying severity affects more than 200 million people. It is about people who can see with the help of glasses or lenses, and by 2050 there will be 500 million of such inhabitants of the planet.
Scientists say that the cause of this phenomenon is the general aging of the world’s population. According to their opinion, an increase in the population will lead to the epidemic of blindness and a change in its age structure.
